Sunday Connection

We kicked off a new thought this past Sunday - Connection. Well i guess its not a new thought considering connect is part of our mission.

letting our tenderness out weigh our toughness - Col. 3:12 Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.
Love More- I Cor. 13
Care more and compete less - Phillipians 2:3 Don't be selfish; don't try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves.

Joshua 4:1 says that all the nation crossed over the Jordan river. This impressed me. Over 2 million people working together to see the promises of G-d. Wow. They must have had a deep connection with each other.

Some quick tips to jot down that will get you through your day!!

Tame the hunger in your head. A lot of us eat out of stress, boredom, or when we are feeling down! Next time you reach for a snack, take a moment to decide if you’re actually hungry. And rather than “feeding your feelings” try going for a walk, praying, chatting with friends, or writing in your journal.
10 second fix – Strong arm your appetite! Next time the scent of fresh baked cookies entices you when you’re not hungry, make a fist and tighten your arm muscles. This clenching action boosts your willpower, giving you the strength to resist temptation.
Eat what you love, but watch serving sizes. The typical bagel is equivalent to 4 slices of bread. An appropriate size of meat (3oz) is the size of a deck of cards.

The key here, as with anything, is moderation. God made our bodies very smart. It tells you when you’re hungry (my stomach growls at me J) and you know when you are full. Obey those signals and you will be amazed at how much less food you will eat!

If you don’t do different, nothing will change!

Some is always Saying

"Who do men say that I am?" A question Jesus asked Peter, His disciple. Now it always gets my attention when someone "All-Knowing" asks a question. Im sure He wasnt asking because He didnt know the answer. But why was He asking? Im also sure Jesus had heard the rumors amd specualtion and all the talk around town. Thats to be expected with people right? Even "church" people? We've all heard it.... The "have you heards?? The Whats going on with the church down the street?? Well I heard....(fill in the blank) And we begin to focus and get so caught up in the "some say." As Peter answered Jesus. But then Jesus asked Peter another question. One that truely mattered more than the "some say." Jesus asked him, "Who do YOU say that I am?"
In our few years as being full-time pastors, the main thing that the Lord has had to work with me and thru me is putting aside what "some say!" I would love to tell you as I sit here that I have grown past the point that what "some say" and the "I heards" doesn't make me crazy!
But then my very patient and loving Father reminds me that the 2nd question is more important than the first...Who do you say that I am? Doesn't matter what people say about your church, your family, your methods, its all about pleasing Him. Because the truth is "Thou art the Christ!" That was Peters answer.The only thing that matters. Jesus replies, "flesh and blood did not reveal that to you but My Father in heaven." And on that revelation, Jesus decided to build His church. Seems like a good place to put it to me :) Not on what "some say" but on the TRUTH! On the revelation of Christ!
When you build your church, your life, your hope, your finances, your conversation on this revelation instead of worrying what everybody is saying, He promises that "The gates of Hell will not prevail against it!" Peoples words and opinions have no bearing on the outcome of your life unless you let them.
A wise pastor once said, " A major transition will happen when a decision is made to stop allowing bitter people to steal your joy!" (Neh 8:10)
Because as long as there is flesh, people will always be saying something!! But the most important thing is what YOU say and what YOU believe!

Used New Year

Welcome to a new year 2012. This year has never been lived in. This year is full of unforeseen days. It is new. The question I often ask myself is what do you do with this new thing.
Some folks like to keep new things new. I know some that like candles, but don't like to burn them?! Isn't that the purpose of the candle? Or others that will buy new table ware but refuse to use the new stuff.
We can treat a new year the same way. We can go into each day with no thought of how blessed we are to be living a new day. We can go into each week without any consideration of a plan for that week. We can walk month after month wishing we could experience something new but continuing to do old things.
Heres another way to move into a new year. Awake every day and realize it is a gift. A gift that should be used to the fullest. Used to renew yourself. Spiritual speaking, spend time connecting to the gift giver. It is G-d who gives us each day,
Used to renew relationships. Rekindle old ones and build new ones.
Used to help someone in need. We find more purpose as we give ourselves away.
Be intentional about using each hour of every day as a gift. A gift that you should use!
Burn the candle, use the china this year.

Jesus/buts??

Did you know that Jesus was into buts???? Crazy question I know. Now our ”buts” can be used as excuses to keep us from doing all kinds of things. But….. when Jesus gets involved, it changes everything.

Proverbs 3:32-33 – For the devious are an abomination to the Lord; BUT He is intimate with the upright. The curse of the Lord is on the house of the wicked, BUT He blesses the dwelling of the righteous. Thank you Jesus for the “Buts !”

That was just a side thought. What really caught me about this passage was the part that says “He is intimate with the upright!” Intimate! Not close to us, not beside us, but He desires to be intimate with us. Now that’s a whole-nother level. The word intimate can be defined as: Closely personal. That says to me that He desires to be involved in every area of our lives. Every area! My aim for 2012 is to make Jesus, “closely personal” with everything that I have going on. I know this doesn’t mean that things will be perfect, but having the creator of the universe closely personal to me in my every day sounds like a good plan. How can you go wrong with that??

If I listed the things I'm grateful for it would probably be a lot of the same things on your list. Like friends, family, country, water, food, and salvation (wow how can you every express enough thankfulness for that).
So I was thinking about a few other things I could add to the list. Maybe not at the top of the list but very important
The Influencers - the people that inspire me to do better or hang in there. The people that influence my kids.
The faithful - the people that live their life consistent. They walk the walk and talk the talk. They are examples for all of us.
Winning - nobody likes to loose, need I say more. (I'm loosing in my fantasy football league to which I am not grateful)
Football- I really like football. ND
A smokin hot woman- named Nikki
Eggnog - I just had an eggnog pie. Very grateful
You- I may not know you, but thanks for reading. And if I do know you, and like you ; ), I'm very grateful.

Complexity breeds confusion and disagreement

Simplicity breeds clarity and agreement

Jesus stepped into a very complex world of politics and religion. Confusion and disagreements were the order of the day. He brought a simple message that evryone could understand and connect to.

Matt. 22:37-40 (my paraphrase) Love G-d with everything, Connect with others and Serve your world.

One interesting point - Jesus makes this personal and forces us to take the responsibility by using the word "You."

You shall love the Lord Your G-d – this is something you have to do. You cant depend on the relationship your grandmother has with G-d, You have to have a personal experience and relationship.

You shall Love your neighbor – It is your responsibility to connect to your neighbor. We cant wait for someone to connect with you. Or get displaced when others don’t connect with you. It is our responsibility to connect.

As Yourself – The same level you care for yourself should be the level you care for others. Serving them as you would serve yourself.

Funny how Jesus’s teaching calls us to look inside and own up to responsibility.

The things we can learn from everyday life

Ok for some reason today I thought it would be a good idea to do my normal exercise this morning (2.5 miles) + ride my bike to work. Maybe somewhere deep inside I have aspirations to participate in a triathlon. And to be truthful it wasn’t all that bad.

On another note, I have recently been teaching on the schemes of the devil. And one of the things the enemy of our soul will use is the lust of the eye. (Stay with me for a min) You know how it works. You see something someone else has and you want it. You see something in the store and you know you can’t afford it but, you want it. Its all about your eyes losing focus on the important things.

Back to the morning biathlon. I’m finishing up the ride after climbing Mount Charlotte (a road that has two massive hills) and headed to the finish line of the back parking lot of the church. All the sudden a neighbor that wasn’t paying any attention pulls very quickly out of her driveway. She almost hit me (lady drivers ; ). I, very nicly, got her attention with a few hey, Hey, HEY!!! All was well I thought.

I pulled around to park my bike and catch my breath. And there was beauty standing in the parking lot. She grabbed my attention. My eyes were focused on her. So I stopped to talk to her. And at that very moment, because she had my attention and I was no longer thinking about my ride and the fact that my right foot is still clipped into the pedal, I leaned to the right and busted my butt on the gravel filled concrete. Pain, a little embarrassed, and blood were added to my morning.

Contagious

I remember one summer I was so impressed by a group of friends and their knowledge of baseball. They knew it all, every stat, every player, and every position. Now I didn’t really care for major league baseball, but their commitment to know the game was very contagious. So I did what any young man wanting to fit in would do, I picked a team and committed to knowing everything about this team. My team was the Atlanta Braves. I would come home after each day and force myself to watch the games, listen and learn. I have to admit that I didn’t really like watching baseball. Other than the occasional highlight play, (opinion alert) baseball is boring. But there was something about the commitment I saw in my friends that pushed me to want to learn baseball. (I will say that today I still enjoy a baseball game every now and then.)

Have you ever looked at someone committed to something and thought wow I want that? It may be someone’s relationship with their spouse. It may be a fulfilling career or maybe someone finically stable. You may look at a family that really loves each other and desire to have that for your family. Now don’t confuse the thought with comparing yourself with others, which is foolish. However to be inspired to commitment is good.

So here’s the thought – is your commitments contagious?

One thing I have learned is no one is inspired by casual commitment. If you love casually, so what. If you give casually, who cares. If you live casually, you blend in.

Exposed

I know a few people that like to be exposed to the sun. At any moment during the spring/summer they will be outside with little covering soaking in the rays. It seems that a depression will set in if it is a cloudy day. They love the sun! And you can see it. Their skin reflects their soaking rituals. You cannot be exposed to the power of the sun without being effected. (truth, I have a few friends that burn really easy and just a little exposer will leave them red and tender)

The real truth is there is very little that we expose ourselves to that don’t affect us. From media to relationships to A/C (yes air condition, if you live in the south you understand the great effect of cold air) to love to hate we are affected by it all. Take love for example, a person that has been exposed to love will reflect the results of that love. The reason kids hate is that they have been exposed to hate.

So I guess the right question would be what are you being exposed to?

In the Bible there is a story of a man named Nicodemus that was exposed to Jesus (John chapter 3). At first he wasn’t sure how to take this new rabbi. He had more questions than answers. He knew Jesus was a good teacher but not sure where to go from there. He was exposed to something that affected him.

We don’t know much about Nic, but this initial exposer sparked something in him. You can read in John chapter 7 where Nic came to the defense of Jesus. This was a risky move, but he couldn’t help it- he was exposed. Then in John chapter 19 you can read about the death of Jesus and guess who is right there with myrrh and aloes (about a 100 lbs worth) good old Nic. His exposer to Jesus is now reflected in his love and admiration for Jesus. You can see that the more Nic was exposed the more he was affected.

So again what are you being exposed to?

You probably have heard the old saying “count your blessings.” Your grandmother may have said this to you when she heard you complaining about not having enough of something. I know this is an old saying, I don’t know who came up with it, but it may not be a bad idea.

Think about this. In your life there are a number of things that surround you that most of the world does not have….

When was the last time you counted the blessings of flushing the toilet? (2.6 billion lack basic sanitation)

You may work hard for little money, but you have a little money. (over half the population of the world lives on less than $2.50 a day)

Maybe last night’s dinner was not that good, but you had a dinner. (over 800 million people suffer from starvation every day)

I took a shower this morning without even thinking about the blessing of running water. (over 1 billion people in developing countries have inadequate access to water)

BTW if your reading this that’s a blessing too. (nearly a billion people entered the 21st century unable to read a book or sign their names)

I know the statistics may vary according to which source you look at however, the truth is I am blessed. Chances are you have more blessings than issues. Stop today and take a look around at all your blessings!

missing the point

I recently saw this picture which looks pretty darn cool. (I wish I could ride my bike on water) the article can be found article

As I was reading the article and some of the post in response I thought some people can’t see the point if it was right in front of them. The young man that staged the stunt was doing it for awareness for flood victims. Apparently there is a bike ride that will raise money for these victims. To which I say “good job and very creative way to bring awareness.” The picture gets your attention.
The response to the picture is really what got my attention. There were many different people trying to explain how this happened. Some did give props to him for raising awareness, but not the majority of the ones I read.
Here let me state the obvious. You can’t ride your bike on water. (deep sarcasm) There has to be some other trick this guys is doing. DUH! But that is not the point. The point is to think about others that have been devastated by flooding.
Truth is I miss the point sometimes by trying to explain things that really don’t matter.

I Spy

Have you ever played the game I spy? You know the one where one person spots something nearby and everyone else tries to guess what they see. It goes something like this – I spy something red and green. Then you guess and if you get it right you get to spy. Its fun you ought to try it. This stirs my thought about a story in the Bible.

Have you ever heard the story of the 12 spies in the bible? It’s recorded in the book of Numbers ch. 13. 12 men chosen to go into the promise land to search it out and bring back a report. These men were leaders in each tribe. All 12 were strong men, men of good judgment, men that should have understood the promises of G-d. The Bible calls them heads of the children of Israel. You probably could name 2 of them, Joshua and Caleb, but what about the other 10. Here are their names; Shammua, Shaphat, Igal, Palti, Gaddiel, Gaddi, Ammiel, Sethur, Nahbi, and Geuel. (We probably remember Joshua and Caleb because we can actually pronounce their names)

They all spied the same things. I spy a land with great things in it. They even brought back evidence of the good things in the land. (Large grapes, pomegranates, etc) I spy giants there, strong giants. I spy fortified cities. They all saw the same things.

The issue was not what they spied in the land; the issue was what they spied in themselves. 2 of the spies said lets go take the land. We can Do It! 10 spies said no we can’t we are too small. The 10 leaders influenced the whole group to believe what they believed. If we are too small so are you. I spy something feeble in ourselves can’t you see it?

We all spy giants (difficulties, issues, struggles) in our life. They usually are standing in the very place we desire to go. They are real and huge. You can see them, others can see them, and everyone can see them. But the solution to the giants is what you spy in yourself.

I spy someone strong, wise, resourceful, beautiful, and able. I spy someone that knows the G-d of the promise land. I spy someone with a fight to move forward. I spy a warrior!

I spy __(insert name her)______. Now it’s your turn, what do you spy?

BTW – What you see turns into what others see. And what you see will be your legacy. (You don’t hear anything else about the other 10 spies)

Wow its been a minute since I last posted! Sorry to the many fans! HA

After 18 married years with the same woman (Nikki and I have been together since the 7th grade), some would say it must get old. Waking up next to the same person day in and out for 18 years. That’s 6336 mornings. Not only do we live together but we work together (gasp) and have worked together for many years. And after each day I swear it gets better with time.

I still believe in the sacredness of marriage. I do believe one man can be married to one woman and they can enjoy life together. I do believe the two become one flesh (more than sex). I do believe, with G-d at the center, you can overcome any hurdle. I do believe you can fight together instead of fighting each other.

There are unseen powers that are after our families. They desire to break up and cause lasting issues. The Devil is a LIE!

Much honor to my wife, BFF, lover, My Nikki I really enjoy you more as we (you) grow older together

BIG BUT

Luke 23:33 When they came to the place called The Skull, there they crucified Him and the criminals, one on the right and the other on the left. 34But Jesus was saying, "Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing " And they cast lots, dividing up His garments among themselves. 35And the people stood by, looking on. And even the rulers were sneering at Him, saying, "He saved others; let Him save Himself if this is the Christ of God, His Chosen One."

I know you probably have read this several times. After all we are coming up on the Easter season and there can’t be Easter without the place called the Skull. Have you ever read it and really thought about what’s going on here? It’s absolutely wild. Here are a few thoughts I’ve been playing around with…

V 33 – says they brought Jesus to a place of death and crucified Him. He (Jesus) was placed between 2 criminals (their life lead them to a place of death).

Then there is this BIG BUT at the start of v34. But Jesus was asking for forgiveness not for Himself but for the ones that where crucifying Him. This says to me while they were in the process of crucifying Him- the nails, the thorns, and the pain- He was handing out forgiveness? They didn’t know what they were doing?? But Jesus knew what He was doing??

They did achieve their goal which was to kill Jesus. Crucify Him!! And as much as they achieved, Jesus achieved His goal which was to Forgive them!! On one side you have a group screaming crucify Him, crucify Him. And on the other side you have Jesus screaming forgive them, forgive them!

In v35 they also questioned Him. Was He really who He said He was. They thought that if He was the Christ He would save Himself. But he didn’t? Because He was the Christ, He embraced death so they could live.

Along with the criminals their life leads to death BUT His death leads them to life!

Thoughts on leadership

I had a conversation with a few people last night about leadership, and it was great. Here are a few thoughts that came from the conversation.

I have learned a lot from different leaders and would encourage you to read a few books. For example anything from John Maxwell, Myles Munroe, and Neil Cole. A huge portion of the conversation came from these leaders.

What is leadership?

Simple answer is, influence.
Leadership is the ability obtain followers (if no one is following you, you’re not leading)
Leadership is the capacity to influence others through inspiration, generated by passion, motivated by vision, birthed from conviction, produced by purpose. - Myles Munroe

Some leaders influence others through fear and manipulation. This is not good.
With this thought everyone has the positional to move in leadership. We all influence others around us. Hopefully in a positive way, however sometimes it’s in a negative way.

How do you positively influence others?

To influence others you first have to be influenced. To move others you first have to be moved.
What are you influenced by? What moves you? What vision has gotten inside of you? What do you see and desire others to see?
You influence others by your words, actions, and life. You set an example. If your words don’t line up with your actions and your actions don’t line up with your life you will have a difficult time influencing others long term.
It is very important what comes out of your mouth!

Serving others should be the primary focus for leaders. It’s not so much top-down leadership, but rather bottom up leadership. Jesus demonstrated this by washing His disciple’s feet. This job was reserved for servants.

Leaders should bear fruit. The fruit is for others to enjoy and receive nourishment.
In the fruit is a seed that will reproduce more fruit. Leaders are very interested in building other leaders. Leaders influence the coming generations.

Just some thoughts from a great conversation on leadership.

The Fuel of Pain

Thinking this morning about all the people that I come in contact with that are hurting. Real life pain, financial pain, relational pain, emotional pain. I too have experienced some of these pains. And it is not fun. It’s not something we sign up for but it’s something we all walk through.

Here’s the thought, if we all walk through it then there must be something to it. If we all have to endure pain then maybe, just maybe there’s something about pain that can help us.

There is a scripture in James 1 that speaks a little about this.

(Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing. NLT)

Interesting- if I read this right, I have a chance to grow when trouble comes my way. I have an opportunity to be complete needing nothing.

Pain has this way of propelling us into the future. Pain produces strength. Pain = a chance to grow. Pain develops things in you. If we can get our hearts off the issue of the pain and begin to explore the opportunities from the pain we will be better off because of the pain. However, most of the time we get lost in the pain and instead of great joy we have great sorrow and we refuse to move from the pain. And if we are not careful we will live in the pain and not grow past the pain. (I dont even have the time to talk about masking the pain that we live in.)

I have heard some people say “well you don’t know my pain” and at that point they begin to speak of all the issues that I have no glue about. And maybe I don’t. However I do know that pain hurts and it sucks, all of it! So I refuse to live in it but rather grow from it.

Eph 5:21 - and be subject to one another in the fear of Christ.

what if we took this one verse to heart? What if we really strived to submit to each other. What would our marriages look like?

Often we miss Eph 5:21 when reading 5:22-33 but dont miss it. Both husbands and wives have a part to play in submission.

What if, I as a husband, loved my wife. Not just love but a love that is willing to lay down life? This is my part to a healthy relationship with her. My part is not to make sure she is submissive. This will flow naturally from an overwhelming love. If i have to demand her to be submissive does that reflect Christ in this scripture?

Christ never demanded me to submit to Him, but once I experience His love I have no issue submitting to Him.

I believe it all starts with the husband!

When I read 1 Corinthians 13 the love chapter I am challenged.
Our culture has wrote it's own love chapter.

I think it goes something like this ...
Love is a feeling, love is a battlefield, love seeks it's own, love is tainted, love runs out, love bleeds, love hurts, Love bites. Love needs something in return. Love works sometimes. I want to know what love is will someone show me? I keep looking in all the wrong places. What's love got to do with it? The truth is I just want to make love.

Here's a question for you. Does your love match 1 Corinthians or our culture?

I will strive to apply true love to my relationships.

Bad Choices

The other week I had a physical for my insurance company. You know the one where they draw blood check levels and ask a ton of questions. I typically don’t like these physicals but I needed to have one. One of the questions asked was “have you ever drank alcohol?” Well I don’t try to lie intentionally so I said “yes.” Oh boy, that started a whole bunch of new questions. One after another about my drinking habits. I don’t have a drinking habit! This went on for several minutes and even several days. Several phone calls, after the physical, asking me about my drinking issue. I don’t have a drinking issue. I know what you are saying “ the first step to getting help is admitting you have a problem.” I agree. So let me admit to something, …. over 20 years ago I drank alcohol! There I admit it.

Here is the thought, bad choices have this way of following you. They have the potential of rippling through your life for month’s even years to come.

What are you listening to?

I love all sorts of music. When I was young I listened to country music. As a teen I loved rap, RUN DMC was my favorite. I went through a rock stage and now I find myself listening to everything. I believe in diversity.

Today I’m listening to John Mark McMillan and really digging it. Also Josh Garrels is adding up on my ipod. I have listened a little to The Civil Wars and House of Heroes. If you get a chance check them out.

This is a great prayer to pray. It takes the focus off of trying to get or beg G-d to change someone or something. And places all the focus on Him changing you!

We have the assurance that He will deliver us from trouble.

Try praying a little different. Don’t just go and ask G-d for things, rather align yourself with Him through prayer

21 day Fast

My family and I will be starting a 21 day fast this Sunday with our church family at StockbridgeAssembly. Nikki and I will be doing a Daniels Fast. This is basically fruits and veggies. No sugars, not meats, and NO COFFEE! (pray for me, I really enjoy coffee) We also will be adding tech-no days (Nikki came up with this she is the creative one). Every Tuesday and Thursday we will be turning off the technology in our lives. Yes this means computers, TV, and cell phones. Obviously we will have to use some form of technology, but we will limit it. Our goal in this is to make room for G-d, in our lives, by unplugging from this world.

What do you see when you look at a blank canvas? Or a blank sheet of paper? Can you see the brush strokes that create a master piece? Do you see the lines to a great story that will be told by people all over? Can you see the end result looking at the emptiness? Will you be committed to the time and energy it will take to see this to the end? Will you one day look back with satisfaction about the art or story you created?

One of the most important elements of creating a master piece or a bestselling novel is inspiration. (I would imagine) Are you inspired? Some are inspired by pain, others by success and others by people.

2011 is here and is a blank canvas waiting on an inspired artist to paint a master piece. Or maybe for you it’s a blank sheet of paper waiting on a creative writer to tell a story. What will your 2011 look like?

As we think about this maybe we should seek inspiration from G-d the one that can see the end from the beginning. What would be His direction for us this year? He has a plan for you this year. He wants you to paint a picture with your life that will bring Him glory. He wants you to be a story of faith.

Here are a few thoughts I was going to share today at StockbridgeAssembly

What will your response be today, the day after Christmas?

There are 4 different that responded differently after they were introduced to Christ.

Mary & Joseph – responded with obedience.

Matt 1:24 And Joseph awoke from his sleep and did as the angel of the Lord commanded him, and took Mary as his wife,
Luke 1:38 And Mary said, "Behold, the bondslave of the Lord; may it be done to me according to your word." And the angel departed from her.

The Shepherds responded with worship

Luke 2:20 The shepherds went back, glorifying and praising God for all that they had heard and seen, just as had been told them.

The Magi responded with repentance (or lest a picture of repentance)

Matt 2:12 And having been warned by God in a dream not to return to Herod, the magi left for their own country by another way.
The Magi returned to their lives but went a different way. This is a picture of repentance, we meet Christ and go about our lives a different way

King Herod responded with pride

Matt 2:3 When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
King Herod was troubled due to the threat of Jesus being King of the Jews which was Herod’s title.

Our Response should be one of
• Repentance
• Worship
• And Obedience
• Say no to the pride that keeps you separated from Jesus.

Simply Christmas continued this past week. It was a great time to connect. If you missed it here is the play back. Pastor Eric opened with funny family pictures. StockbridgeAssembly staff presented a Christmas video.

Worship was rocking. We had special guest come sing, Kids Alive. Thanks to all the kids and team leaders that made that possible. That was great
We also had another baby dedication. Its pretty cool to see so many dedications lately. (be fruitful and multiply)
The message was simply family

• We need love in our families – You see love all through the Christmas story. Joseph had to have some love for Mary. He was a righteous man, compassionate man, and a committed man.

• We need families that believe in the impossible- Joseph and Mary were guided by faith not fear. Fear hinders the impossible. Fear is the absence of trust.

• We need families that follow divine direction – Joseph and Mary followed what the Lord told them to do. Faith without action is dead.

Swaddling Clothes

I have been really wrapped up in the Christmas story this year. For whatever reason, G-d has shed some light on things I use to ignore. Embracing His story will change your life. I would encourage you to read the Christmas story in Matthew and Luke. Then be like the shepherds after they heard the good news, they went to find Jesus. And they found Him.

Here are a few thoughts that have been stirring.

Jesus wrapped in swaddling clothes – From my understanding this would have been pieces of linen. Mary would wrap Him tightly with the linen. However, everyday she would Unwrap Him for obvious reasons (cleaning). The thought is we too should unwrap Jesus on a daily bases. The only difference is when we unwrap Him He cleanses us.

He is the gift from G-d that needs to be opened. And the best part this gift keeps giving and there is something new every day when you open it.

It was a great Sunday this past week. If you missed it here is the play-by-play.
Eric opened with a discussion about Christmas Décor and gave out free toothpaste and free sandwiches coupons.

Special guest, Coach Schmitt addressed StockbridgeAssembly and thanked us for serving at Woodland High School.

The thought for the message was Simply Hope.

Hope is what the Christmas story brings to us. We talked about the shepherds in the fields watching their sheep and how hopeless they must have felt.

Key thoughts about the Shepherds

• 400 years of silence from the close of the Old testament to the opening of the New Testament

• Being a shepherd was a tough job.

• Shepherds were marginalized in society

• Not much in finical advancement

• They were fighters (always protecting their herd)

• They worked months on end. Separated from family.

• They lived with sheep. Day in and day out.

• Shepherds were watching their flock by night

Darkness (night) can lead to fear, danger lurks in darkness, we get lost in darkness

They story in Luke paints a dark picture before the angels show up

We all can relate to the shepherds at some point or another. Hopeless, dark, and tough times.

But when the angel shows up he brings light. 3 different times in Luke’s story light and peace are together

The angel said that there was a

• Savior – someone that will rescue you in time of trouble

• Messiah or Christ – The promised one , G-d still follows through on His promises

• Lord – The coming ruler to bring peace

And the best part was, Jesus was for them.
The angel also gave them a sign that pointed to Jesus
• G-d has always offered us signs in times of hopelessness that point to Jesus.
This Christmas G-d is for You and G-d is with You. There is always Hope

• We opened with a comical thought about Bad Gifts people have given and received. (Have you ever given a bad gift? I have) G-d has never given a bad gift!

• Worshiped Rocked! Charles and the team did great.

• I was able to give honor to someone that spoke into my life 17 years ago, Ms. Margie. She actually prophesied over Nikki and I that we would be in the ministry. At the time we were not even attending a church.

• ‘Big” P (Patric) shared a monologue – the main point "Don’t just sing Joy to the world, but share Joy with the world."

• A Simple Challenge - A challenge was given to stay focused on the true meaning of Christmas. This is, G-d loving us so much that He gave His Son to die in our place.

• Spend less and Give more- Don’t get so caught up in the consumerism of this culture, but rather reflect G-d in your giving. He gave a personal gift, relational gift, a gift that made a difference, a gift of presence.

• Embrace His Story – Encouraged everyone to read the Christmas Story and other scriptures to keep it alive in us. Not just once but daily. Maybe try http://www.youversion.com/ and read the rediscovering Christmas reading plan.

• Celebrate – As Christ followers we should be people that know how to celebrate! We should be smiling. Celebrate with family (old traditions and new traditions), Friends (have a party and share in a meal together), and everyone (try to make someone else smile by random acts of kindness).

Have you ever been in a situation where you didn’t know what to do? You had no clear direction on which way to go? You had no idea how things would turn out? It may be at home, at work or in relationships. Times like this can wear on you and drive you to do stupid things.

Here are a few things I have been learning when faced with not knowing what to do! (Been learning, means this is something that happens often in my life)

Admit you don’t know what to do – Sometimes we make stupid decisions because of pride. You may feel like you have to know everything but let me tell you –You don’t. Embrace the lack of your knowledge and be willing to learn. Which leads to the next thought …

Be humble enough to ask for wisdom – I would bet someone somewhere has been in a similar situation. I would bet someone somewhere would share some ideas with you. I would bet that someone somewhere is waiting on you to ask. I know G-d is waiting, in the book of James it says we can ask for wisdom and G-d will give it to us freely. Someone that is not in your situation can see things from a different angle. Seek out wisdom.

Commit to stay in it – Don’t stop believing. No storm last forever. Stay committed. To many times we just don’t like the fight and give up way to soon. It may be the 4th quarter and your tired and behind. But as long as there is time on the clock keep fighting. Commit to your relationships, your work path, and life. Its darkest right before the sun breaks the horizon!

Daring to change- Be willing to make the necessary changes. Apply the wisdom you received. It may be small changes (and if you’re in a tough situation small changes may be wise). You would be surprised what a simple shift in your attitude would do. Just changing what you speak out of your mouth will affect your situation. One small step can make a large impact. You may have never done it that way, but go ahead and risk it. Learn to embrace the changes of life and work it to your favor.

I asked myself “Self, what message do you bring to others?” “Self, are you bringing good news to others news that brings peace and freedom?” “Or are you spreading bad/negative news?” “Self, are your feet beautiful? Or do they smell?” “Self, is your presence welcomed and enjoyed by others?”

Is it about beautiful feet or more about the message the feet are carrying?

Two things we must know – 1. We bring a message with every connection we make. 2. Your feet need to be beautiful!

I was at a store the other day; I believe it was right after the famed holiday Halloween. And what I saw turned the light on for me. I saw half the store dedicated to xmas décor and heard over the loud speaker xmas music. THE FIRST OF NOVEMBER! This particular store had every kind of fake tree you can buy. There where blue, green, orange, and pink trees. Some of these trees had flashing lights others had the standard lights. And to top it off you could buy every imaginable ornament to hang on your colorfully fake tree.

At that point I got it. What we need in the world is different colored, fake xmas trees. This just makes the world a better place. I think everyone should have a different colored xmas tree. Can you imagine your neighborhood; in the window of every house was a different color xmas tree. How great would that be!

And speaking of xmas music. I get it and have a suggestion. What if in every neighborhood we put up outdoor speakers and each house could plug into them and play their favorite xmas songs. Wouldn’t that be great? Every day you came home you could hear a different holly, jolly xmas song. : )

I get it, this is xmas! The greatest time of the year!

I had a BEAutiful bike ride this AM. It was very relaxing and the weather was just right. Fallen leaves covered the trail. It was very nice except the TWO times I fell.
I have been riding for over four years. I would like to think I have a little experience. However, not today. I actually ran off the trail once and the other time I simply stopped and fell. (i think i pulled something trying not to fall)

I had two thoughts to go with my two falls.

1. No matter how experienced you are failure can still hit you. Especially if you lose focus. Sometimes we can think we have it all together and nothing can stop us. I think about this in marriage. A couple has been married for many years and think they are experts. Then the next thing you know they are getting a divorce. Why? They lost focus! Never think your to big or smart to fall.

2. You hurt yourself more by fighting the fall then you would if you would just fall. There are times when we know we have failed but wont admit it. We fight it by saying it's not our fault or ignoring it all together. Just admit it and move on.

BTW both times i got back on my bike and kept going. Failure is not final!

Let me go get some icy hot and google search training wheels...

Have you ever experienced something that just made you question, what the world is going on? Well I have experienced just such a thing recently at a Chic-fil-a.

As do most people in my area, we eat Chic-fil-a a lot. I would say several times a week. We have the Dwarf House, regular Chi-fil-a, and a Truett’s Grill within a few miles of my life. And we support the maker of the original chicken sandwich.

The food is great but the service is what makes me ask what the world is going on? For the most part you can walk into any Chic-fil-a and receive the same service. The same smile, the same good attitude, the same feeling of importance. I was sitting at Chic-fil-a recently and they came by and picked up my trash (this was the self serve side) with a smile. Chic-fil-a workers come by and ask if they can fill our drinks or get you anything else. And you don’t even have to leave a tip! It seems the employees are there to make your experience a memorable one. And this keeps many coming back for more.

Now you may say that’s the answer, they are employees. They are getting paid! The boss tells them to must act this way or you don’t get paid! I’m not so sure if money is the whole answer. Sure it plays a roll but I have been to other fast food restaurants and not felt welcomed or anything for that matter. So what the world causes a Chic-fil-a employee to act different?

One thing I noticed is it starts from the top. Most every time, when I’m grazing on a great spicy chicken sandwich, I see the owner of the store walking around greeting people, taking trash, and filling drinks. The managers display this standard also. The leadership sets the standard. They are not hidden in an office in the back, but very visible upfront. Leaders lead. They set the standard and boundaries in which others work within.

I’m on a search to find out what the world makes Chic-Fil-a different other than the obvious.

Galatians 5:13-15

We should use our freedom (which was given to us from Christ) to serve each other in Love!

intimacy issues

Our humanity is corrupt. And I have seen it more lately than ever. I think there is an intimacy issue!

John 3:6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.
The only way you have a birth of any sort is when two come together in intimacy. You know the drill, the bird and the bees. Hooked up, shacked up, and knocked up. When we are intimate we always have the risk of birthing. Birth is the result of intimacy.

There is also an issue of attraction. Intimacy follows attraction. Attraction is something that sparks interest and draws us in. So it may look something like this – attraction -->intimacy -->birth.
Look at this idea from another perspective, a spiritual perspective. If we see the flesh birthing things in our lives then we have been intimate with things our flesh is attracted to. We have been shacked up with fleshly desires. We have hooked up with fleshly motives. And have birthed flesh.

Our flesh is attracted to sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like according to Galatians 5.

When I read the things the flesh is attracted to I say no way, but consider what you look at, watch, read and spend time doing and dwelling on.

The solution is to break up with the flesh. Stop shaking up!

Walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. (Galatians 5)

anchor or engine

I heard a question the other day that asked “are you an anchor or an engine?”

Well obviously these two items are different and serve different purposes. However it is something to consider are you more like an engine or an anchor? Here is the major difference…

An anchor holds – an engine propels

I would like to say I’m both due to the fact that sometimes you need an anchor and sometimes you need an engine.

In my marriage I need an anchor (of love) to stay in the harbor of my relationship. I defiantly don’t need an engine to propel me out to sea. But I do need an engine to propel my relationship forward, for if my relationship is not moving (growing) then it becomes stale.
I need to be an anchor for my kids to hold them to the values of our family, but need to be an engine to propel them toward their future.

If I’m in a storm I want to be an engine, If I’m in a lagoon I want to be an anchor and enjoy the time.

I think the question should be “do you know when to use an engine or an anchor?” Do you know when to drop the anchor or crank the engine?

An anchor is not something you want to drag behind your engine. Both have a purpose and wise you will be if you learn it.

Deep Cleaning

During some time off I decided to get up and actually hand wash the Jeep. Now we have had the Jeep washed in the automatic quick car wash but never hand washed and detailed cleaned it. But today is the day! With enthusiasm I start to the garage gather soap, sponge, and told Nikki to grab her bikini. : )

Man! The Jeep was dirty. There was dirt deep down in cracks and junk all over. (we have a very active family) So we cleaned and washed, and cleaned and washed. We even bought window cleaner and fancy rags to wipe down the interior. We scrubbed the tires, and sprayed the tires, and scrubbed the tires. After several hours it was looking good. The tires shined, interior glowed and all was well. To top off the day we bought some air freshener (the ones that go into the vents) and WOW the Jeep looked and smelled good.

After several hours we were done and had a great sense of accomplishment. Job DONE!

An afterthought : How many times do we attempt to clean our lifes at an automatic alter service, but ignore the deep dark places. We clean the outside and place a smile on our face and spray a little deodorant in the cracks and go! But deep down there is junk and crap. Oh nobody may be able to see it but it’s there. Maybe its time to do a deep cleaning and look at the dark places in your life.

Take the time to clean the dirt!

Fall Break

Its always a good thing when you can take a step back from the everyday hustle and bustle. Relax was the priority of the week for my family. We did not have much planned and really tried to unplug from everyday life. In times like this I see things from a different angle. Here are a few thoughts I had over the week.

The church didn’t burn to the ground. As a pastor its hard to pull away and know everything will be ok. Yes something will always come up. (with you there or not) The key is to let others that are called, credited and capable handle things. They can do it! I would dare to say they want to do it! (I know I did when I was in that position)

Called – You must know that G-d’s calling is bigger than you. He uses different personalities to achieve different outcomes. There are people around you called; I know that because there are people around you lost. People called by G-d to work the mission.

Credited – These are people that serve alongside you. You see them and you give them a credit because you know (with your own eyes) what they can do. Give credit to who credit is due. To the ones that serve, give them credit.

Capable - These are people that have been called and you have credited and are ready with integrity. They are capable of handling issues and successes. They will serve the mission well.

Building a team that can keep the mission alive is crucial. (Another thought for another day-The mission gives the boundaries for which your team can work.)
In addition I have to trust others and most importantly trust in what G-d is doing in and through others.
And at the end of the week the church is still standing, the business is still selling and you are relaxed and revived.

Still to come this week – Cleaning the jeep for the first time, Visiting other churches, spending the week with the kids.

Chosen

John 15:16 "You did not choose Me but I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and bear fruit, and that your fruit would remain, so that whatever you ask of the Father in My name He may give to you.

What a prevailing thought. Jesus chose you! That must mean He saw something in you He liked. You may look in the mirror and frown; He looks at you and smiles! Others may call you names; He calls you by name.

Not only did He choose you but He appointed you to bear fruit for Him.

Today the fruit of your life should represent the one that chose you. The one that first loved you! And understand that when it comes to bearing fruit for Him you can ask for whatever in the name of the one that chose you!

Live today as one chosen!

Plagues

I read about the Egyptians and the plagues this morning – Exodus 6-11.

I had a plethora of questions and thoughts. Let me share a few with you

• Why did it take so long for Pharaoh to get it?

• Why does it take me so long to get it?

• (What is IT?)

• The Israelites must have had some anxiety. “ok you can go! Wait- no you cant! Get out of here! No wait.” They must have stayed packed and ready to leave at a moment’s notice. Living in the state of ready. (maybe I should be living in a ready state)

• Sometimes it gets worse before it gets better.

• Sometimes something has to die to set something else free.

• Remember the Israelites were living in the mess of the plagues. And they survived.

Read in Genesis 21 today about Abraham’s maid that he had a kid with. (which is very inappropriate for you to get your maid pregnant in today’s world) His wife says send her away I don’t like her and he did. He packed her a bag gave her some water and said “Good Day.”

Well, in her travels she ran out of the provision Abraham provided. She and Abraham’s son were now left for dead. (But G-d said the boy would not die but be a great nation) She went to a bush laid the lad down and left him to die alone. As with any mother, she could not bear the pain to watch her son die. The boy began to cry the mom began to cry everybody began to cry. What a sad picture.

G-d heard the cries from the lad. Not sure why it says several times that G-d heard the boy cry and said nothing about the mom crying but anyway. G-d then told the mom not to fear and opened her eyes to a well that was close by. Great ending to what seemed like a bad story.

My attention was drawn to the fact that she didn’t see the well. Was she so distracted by her plot in life that she could not see past mans provision. I know sometimes I get so caught up with what I’m walking through that I miss things. I get so worried that I miss opportunities. I get so focused on the negative I miss the positive. I get so mad and say “this is not right or far I deserve better’ and I miss the promises G-d has given. Sometimes it may seem like death is the only option. But before you go that far look around you may be missing something.

Can we be too committed? I mean most of the time it is a good thing (G-d, marriage, family would be a good place to be committed). Here is a list of things maybe we are too committed to:

Too committed to self, our way or always being right

Risky Riding

I enjoy the adventure of riding my bike. I love moving down hills at speeds that make me nervous. I’m becoming tolerant to riding up hill at speeds that make me sick. I enjoy the sense of accomplishment after a ride is over. However, all of this is great, but it almost ended today.

I took a turn too early and to my surprise a full sized truck was turning in my path. With G-ds grace he stopped and I moved quickly out of the way. My heart picked up a few extra beats. He almost got me.

And that’s why I love riding, I think?

Maybe I should abide by the rules of the road?

Maybe I should yield to a half ton truck?

Maybe I should ride on the sidewalk?
Maybe I should be more cautious?
Maybe I should leave my bike on the rack?
But where would the fun be in that?

Take a risk!

Get off the sidewalk of life and ride! Yes be smart, but don’t let caution stop you!

Take the down hills of life with speeds that make you nervous. And fight hard to get to the top of the hills. When a half ton truck is staring at you just keep moving (out of the way).

Join the adventure of living.

Refreshing Moments

Sometimes we get congested with …..life. Congested with the “to do list”; with running from here to there; with the worries you don’t like to worry about; with thoughts for tomorrow. And at the end of a day we are tired and weary and not looking forward to another day. Blahhhh!
But there are moments that will refresh our spirit. These moments are special and need to be found in every day. Refreshing moments help us with the congestion of life.

Here are a few moments I saw today:

A smile from my wife

A challenge from my son

A group of kids using their G-d given energy for something positive

Standing on a football field

Hearing that my mom is challenging herself

A small gift from a friend

Satisfaction of doing the right thing

I suppose I will have a few more tonight:

When I shoot my son with a paint ball – Ha ha ha

When I eat dinner with my family
Watching the sun set
When I kiss my love goodnight

My Love

One of the best things about life is the people you get to spend it with.
This weekend I will be celebrating 17 years of marriage with a woman that rocks my world!
On this side of eternity she is it for me. I truly believe G-d placed us in each other’s life. And I can honestly say I love her more each day we are together.
I enjoy waking up next to her every morning and climbing into the bed with her after a long day. I’m thrilled to conquer new adventures with her. I love the kids we have together (as my daughter is slurping her milk in front of me). And I look forward to many more years.

I agree with a statement someone said about my feelings toward her “Steven is very attached to Nikki.”

Thank You Lord for my wife!

Can I Say That

Have you ever heard someone say something that was a little different? It could be just a short statement that catches you off guard. Maybe a statement that causes you to stop and think. Perhaps a statement that sticks with you.

I read a statement like this that really provoked me to think. I was reading in the book of Job and the poor guy was going through a lot. He had lost most all his possessions, all his children, and his wife was telling him to curse G-d and die. He even had these boils all over his body. He also had a few friends that came to sit with him in his misery. However they made matters worse. Job was walking through a very difficult time in his life.

Nestled in a response to one of his friends comes this statement. As for me, I know that my Redeemer lives, And at the last He will take His stand on the earth.

Can I say that??? In the midst of all my trouble (which is nowhere near what Job walked through) can I still see my Redeemer? Or has the trouble of this life stolen my sight? Can I muster up enough strength to still know that my avenger will come? Or have I lost hope of rescue? Can I declare to all that I will be back up on my feet? Or do I daydream of times when things were better?

What do you say in times of trouble?

The thought - do I try to supply my needs (because im independent) according to my riches(which seem to be lacking) or do I trust G-d to supply according to His riches in glory.

But is a very popular word. I hear it all the time around my house. When I ask one of my kids to do something they respond with BUT, which is followed by a long list of why they can’t do what was requested. But is usually followed by excuses.

But I can’t do that because____________
But can be a problem word in your life. If you use “but” too much with your spouse they may kick you in the butt. If you use “but” to much with your boss, when you ask for a raise, he may say “but.” If we use “but” with G-d He may use you as an illustration. (Remember Jonah)

However “but” doesn’t have to be a problem word. It can be a word of promise.

"As for you, you meant evil against me, but G-d meant it for good in order to bring about this present result, to preserve many people alive. Gen. 50:20

But G-d, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), Eph 2:4,5

But G-d demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

But by the grace of G-d I am what I am, and His grace toward me did not prove vain; but I labored even more than all of them, yet not I, but the grace of God with me. 1 Cor 15:10

And looking at them Jesus said to them, "With people this is impossible, but with G-d all things are possible." Matt 19:26

I like it when G-d puts a but in the middle of my problem.

you know as i read the bible and the prophets of old i can really see G-ds character. It seems as if He always desired to give the inside scoop of what was about to happen.
If judgement was about to come He sent a prophet to warn the nation. for example - Jonah going to Nineveh. G-d could have just destroyed the nation, BUT His compassion said no! Jonah warned and Nineveh repented
Now, Jonah didn't understand why G-d would spare such a city. So G-d gave Jonah the inside scoop to bring understanding.
In the story of Amos G-d was sending all sorts of bad things to Israel. He gave Amos the inside scoop in which he returned prayer for Israel which saved Israel.
the inside scoop showed compassion, brought repentance, reveled understanding, provoked prayer.

Courtesy Warning

I was driving from the coffee shop the other day when I looked into my rear view mirror and saw blue lights. “Oh come on!” I thought. This is the last thing I need. I started running a check list of things that could be in violation.
Seat Belt – Check
Speed – Check
Weaving – maybe a little, too much caffeine
Tag – Check

What could it be! The nice officer walked up to the window and asked “Did you know your tail light was out?”
“No ma’am I didn’t, but I will get that fixed” was my reply.

She took my licenses ran a check ,which came back clear, and brought me back a Courtesy Warning.
This says that you are in violation and need to fix the problem but there is no fine. This is a courtesy warning not a ticket. I didn’t have to do anything, but fix the violation.
I had a thought. This is what the Holy Spirit does, gives us a courtesy warning. The bible calls it conviction. It’s all the same. Conviction points out the violation, sin. Sin separates us from G-d and if we continue in sin we will be forever separated. But the Holy Spirit stops you and says “Hey did you know that your _Fill in the blank__?” We don’t like convection no more than having blue lights flash behind your car. However it could be a benefit.

Convection says fix the violation.

Confidence

A scripture that we read at funerals really spoke to me the other day.

2 Corinthians 5:678

So we are always confident, while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord. For we walk by faith, not by sight. We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.

Always confident!?? I wish that was me. Sometimes I lose my confidence. Sometimes I trade my confidence. Sometimes I misplace my confidence. Sometimes I just simply don’t have it!

However, looking back to the times when confidence was low, I noticed it was a time I was living by what I saw. For whatever reason, I traded living by faith for living by sight. I misplaced the hope of knowing one day I will be with the Lord. I lost my confidence.

Confidence comes from knowing and trusting in something. When I trust in what I see (which is hell sometimes) I lose. When I trust in what I don’t see I win! Sounds backwards but that’s usually the way it works when you follow Christ.
When confidence is running low or gone completely remember that YOU belong to the Lord. And one day we will be absent from this body and be present with the Lord.

Paul warned us to be careful not to be lead away by a different gospel. (Galatians 1)
A different gospel would be something different than Christ taught and recorded in the bible.

Here's whats bothering me.

Why do I feel I'm teaching a different gospel when I'm reading a direct scripture?
for example

1 John 2:15 - Do not love the world or the things in it, If you do the love of the Father is not in you
1 John 3:10 - If you do not love your brother, you are not of G-d
1 John 3:16 - If you have stuff, and ignore someone in need the love of G-d does not abide in you
1 John 4:8 - If you dont love you dont know G-d
Hebrews 11:6 - It is impossible to please G-d outside of faith
Philippians 3:19 - If you set your mind on earthly things, you are an enemy of the cross
Philippians 2:5 - The same mindset Christ had, we should have
Matt 25:41 - If we see people in need and do not help, it is the same as not helping Christ

Why do these scriptures seem so far away from where we live? Why do we try to justify why we cant do what the scriptures say?
Have we followed a different gospel?

I was doing some research for a talk I was giving on the widows mite

I found that most of the world lives on 10.00 a day, and half lives on 2.50 a day.
Also in a 2007 report the average American lived on 54.00 a day.
Compared to the world, we in America, live pretty well.
I wonder if I could live on 2 dollars for a day. Well that’s the plan for tomorrow.
I don’t plan on spending over two dollars. Not sure if i can but I dont want to be rich on this side of eternity and beg on the other side.

Our key thought is – Repentance is not so much about what you have done but rather what you can become.

• He is the G-d of the Living

• A naked man in linen sheets? (I know I have read the bible before but I don’t remember this)

• Testing of faith = endurance

• Faith & works - Works & Faith – that’s what works

• Temptation comes from your desires.

Here is an interesting thought

The more I read the bible the clearer things become.
Sometimes I will read just a chapter or two and it seems like Im just reading another book. But when I read 10 plus chapters I see things different- clearer.
I guess its like medicine, the bigger the dose the bigger the effect. I wonder if you can overdose?
Here are some thoughts from Mark 1 -11

• Mark used the word immediately 10 times in the first chapter. NAS

• Jesus prayed in the morning

• People came from everywhere to see and hear Jesus

• Jesus spoke in terms of relationships

• Someone is watching to see what you will do

• Stretching = healing

• Learn the art of withdrawal

• Does your seed produce a crop

• Let it shin, let it shine, let it shine

• Hide it under a bushel – NO! I’m going to let it shine

This section was difficult to read, but here are my thoughts

• Can you give G-d the praise at the midnight hour?

• These disciples upset the WORLD!

• Paul was driven by a changed life

• People still fall asleep in church

• A message that counters complacency will always face complications

• Paul went to where he knew affliction would be waiting

• Do work befitting of your repentance

• Follow that inner voice more than outer knowledge

• G-d has the Final say!

Rich young property owner

A young rich man came to Jesus and asked a few questions. You can find the story in Matt. 19

The young property owner would have made a great disciple. He must have known some things about management and priorities. He owned much land and kept the commandments. But he still was lacking.
He knew there was something missing. He knew Jesus would have the answers.
Im sure he was a little excited to hear Jesus speak to him and say to have eternal life keep the commandments. But what Jesus said next was troubling. Sell everything and give it away and follow me.
Am I willing to sell out to everything I know and own? I’m I willing to learn a new life? I know Jesus has the answers, but I just don’t know if I want to hear them.
It’s one thing to know Him and another to follow Him

And so it begins – Reading through the New Testament in 30 days. The Bible declares that we should not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of G-d. So this is a booster shot of sorts.
I will try to post random thoughts/questions from my daily reading
Day 1 - Matthew 1 – 12
• You have a History- what is it?
• Be lead by the Spirit
• When the message is about Jesus, people will come
• Temptation comes 1. When you follow the Spirit 2. When you are tired 3. When you are hungry
• Are you willing to leave everything to follow Jesus
• Our gospel is worthless and is being trampled under the feet of the community, BUT Christ Gospel is still holding its flavor
• Adultery= Looking & Lusting
